A second half surge saw Thornbury Town put seven past Tytherington to make it 21 goals in their last four games.

Thorns dominated the game from start to finish and almost went ahead in the sixth minute, Matt Davis not quite getting his head to a Harry Brock cross. Rocks were defending resolutely, getting men behind the ball and giving Town few clearcut opportunities. Marcus Wormwell went close with a shot from the edge of the area that was inches too high, whilst just over the 30 minute Mark Powell saved well from Craig Lancastle.

Thorns that finally took the lead on 39 minutes when Harry Brock and Wormwell linked up well to set up Toby Bennett to rifle the ball past Powell.

Town had the perfect start to the second half, doubling their lead after three minutes when a cross to the far post found Craig Lancastle who steered his shot past Powell. Five minutes later a well worked move down the left involving Lancastle and Matt Davis set up Bennett to notch Thorns’ third goal of the game. Rocks were given a rare chance when Parkin miscued a clearance straight to Harrison Hardy but the substitute shot wide from the edge of the area.

Thorns were pressing forward in numbers and a Craig Lancastle shot was saved and Marcus Wormwell’s follow-up cleared off the line by McCarthy.

Town went four up in the 73rd minute when another fluent build up saw Lancastle net his second of the afternoon.

Two minutes later Nathan Sage’s looping header completely outfoxed Powell for Thorns fifth. The hosts battled gamely but a rampant Thornbury side scored twice in the last five minutes, firstly when Aaron Clark powered home a header from Luke Franklin’s corner, his first goal for the club, and then in the dying seconds, Jim Brock’s shot was well saved by Powell but Asher Budd was on hand to nod home the rebound.

An emphatic win for Thornbury saw them move up into third spot in the league with a game in hand on the top two.

They are six points behind leaders Cheltenham Saracens.
