Thornbury.......... 2
Malmesbury....... 0
A STUNNING volley saw Malmesbury Victoria suffer a frustrating defeat against high-flying Thornbury Town in Hellenic League Division One West on Saturday.
The Vics went into the game on the back of a 3-1 Subsidiary Cup victory over Pewsey Vale and a stunning 4-1 win over leaders Cheltenham Saracens but high-flying Thornbury proved too strong on the day.
The first half ended goalless and it remained that way until the 70th minute.
Harry Brock broke the deadlock for the hosts and it proved crucial.
Nine minutes later, Thornbury sealed the victory in some style when Mark Viner scored a stunning bicycle kick in the style of Wayne Rooney against Manchester City.
The result saw Malmesbury drop to sixth in the league while Thornbury are third having won eight of their nine league games.
Andy Wicks’ side travel to Tytherington Rocks in their next league game this Saturday.
On Tuesday night, the Vics took on Fairford Town in the Floodlit Cup.
