FOREST Green boss Mark Cooper says goalkeeper is likely to be the only area he will look to strengthen this January.

Rovers have signed Junior Mondal and Shawn McCoulsky so far in the transfer window and after Robert Sanchez was recalled to Brighton and Hove Albion, Cooper admitted that he may add a new keeper.

The Forest Green boss isn't in a rush to bring in a new keeper with James Montgomery and Lewis Thomas both available but has not ruled out a new arrival.

"That may be one position we may look to strengthen," said Cooper. "We can do that outside of the window with an emergency loan if anything happens to James Montgomery.

"We're done, we've got a small squad of 18 players but I'm happy to work with those numbers."

Sanchez was one of four loan players to return to their parent clubs this month.

The Rovers manager revealed three of those - Matt Worthington, Ben Morris and Theo Archibald - were his decision to send back and Cooper explained his thinking in letting them return to their clubs.

"Theo, Ben and Matt, I decided to send back because I didn't think they were getting enough game time," he explained.

"I thought at their age they deserved or needed to be playing more and I couldn't guarantee them that so from a selfish point of view I could have kept them here and use them as I see fit but it wouldn't be the right thing to do."

Cooper also pointed out that new signing Mondal, who arrived from Whitby Town, will fill the void that Archibald will leave which he says also came into his mind when making the decision on Archibald.

"That's the thinking," he said. "Junior's got electric pace and scored a lot of goals in non-league football. He's not one I'd say is ready to start week in week out but he's certainly one I would think about throwing on from the bench for impact."

While a lot of focus has been on players coming in, there could be players leaving the New Lawn this window.

Fabien Robert joined Gloucester City but there could be a couple more.

"We've got a few players that are surplus to requirements but there's nobody showing any interest in two or three of those players."
