Ashley Loveridge has covered Forest Green for 15 years, here he gives his thoughts on the Christian Doidge’s £1m transfer collapse to Bolton and subsequent sensational return to Rovers.

CHRISTIAN DOIDGE is one of the nicest men you could meet in football – a public relations dream for any club looking to promote their brand.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing this affable man for three years and you won’t meet a more grounded person in the ego-driven world of football, and that’s why I’m certain he has the right tools to deal with such a catastrophic kick in the teeth.

He fully deserved his dream move to the Championship, coming up the hard way through the rough and tumble of non-league football after being rejected by Bristol Rovers as a lad.

For now, Rovers have rightly kept their man from making any comments in the media as he comes to terms with being shafted, but Doidge is a resilient character and will recover from this setback - and with any luck play a pivotal role in firing Rovers into League One - and a possible chance of returning to the Macron in a Forest Green shirt.
