Yate Town boss Paul Britton has confirmed he is ‘100 per cent’ interested in bringing back Forest Green goalkeeper Lewis Thomas back to Lodge Road.

The Welshman had a loan spell at Yate earlier in the season but returned to Rovers back in December when Robert Sanchez picked up an injury before he was subsequently recalled by parent club Brighton and Hove Albion.

Forest Green signed Lewis Ward on loan from Reading which could free up Thomas to go out on loan again.

Britton declared he is keen to bring Thomas back to Yate.

“I’m 100 per cent interested,” he said. “Lewis played a massive part in what we’ve done this season, he was great for us.

“He’s Forest Green’s player though and they’ll do what they think is best for him.”

Yate suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Bideford on Saturday and they surrendered top spot in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South.

Britton was disappointed in the manner they conceded goals but wasn’t too disheartened by his team’s performance.

“Bideford is always a tough place to go,” said Britton. “We got a goal back just before half time and looked like we’d get another but we didn’t and they hit us with a third.

“I was more disappointed in the manner we conceded the goals rather than the performance overall.”

Yate are second in the league. They are level on points with leaders Blackfield and Langley, only behind by a single goal. Third place Moneyfields are just a point behind in what’s shaping up to be an exciting title race.

Moneyfields are Yate’s opponents this weekend in what is arguably Yate’s most important game of the season.

Britton is confident his team will bounce back from the setback at Bideford and was keen to point out his teams results following defeats this season.

“One thing we haven’t done this season is lose back-to-back games,” Britton commented. “We’re confident but Moneyfields are in great form.

“They’re a good team with players who’ve played at a higher level but our record against the top sides this season has been brilliant so we’re looking forward to it.”
