SAM RUSSELL, one of Forest Green's favourite New Lawn sons, returns to his old stamping ground tonight.

In a fixture quirk - Russell,36, will make his first League Two start for Grimsby after regular number one James McKeown was sent off for serious foul play against Lincoln City on Saturday.

Russell, who still has a home in Stroud, clocked up more than 200 games for the Nailsworth club in two spells, playing under David Hockaday, Ady Pennock and Mark Cooper, who brought the affable Middlesbrough-born goalkeeper back to the New Lawn in the summer of 2016, where Russell helped the club to promotion to the Football League after beating Tranmere Rovers at Wembley.
