Forest Green bounced back from their defeat to Bury with a comfortable 3-0 win over Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

Christian Doidge scored twice, his first goals since his return from Bolton Wanderers while Reece Brown added a third in the second half.

The win moved Rovers up to sixth in League Two as they prepare for two huge games against Stevenage and Mansfield Town.

Here are five talking points from Tuesday's game at the New Lawn.

Normal service resumed

Christian Doidge scored twice in Forest Green win. That's a phrase that was heard quite a lot over the past couple of years.

It hasn't taken the striker long to settle back in and get back on the goal trail. In fact, his brace made him the joint top scorer for Rovers in the league - level with George Williams and Reuben Reid on six League Two goals for FGR.

His goals were trademark Doidge. The first was a real bullet header after a brilliant cross from Liam Shephard while the second was a real poachers goal as he followed up Sam Russell's punch to prod home.

It's exactly what Rovers have been missing up front this season.

Rovers do have clinical edge

The one, and perhaps only, criticism of Forest Green this season has been that they often fail to kill teams off when they go 1-0 up, particularly at home.

Apart from the 2-2 draw with Cheltenham, whenever Rovers have scored twice or got that all important second goal - they've gone on to win the game. They couldn't have picked a better time to score their second goal against Grimsby - right on the stroke of half time.

It was only the third time Forest Green have scored more than one goals in a game at the New Lawn in the league.

Corner turned at home

Forest Green only won two of their first 10 home league games but they've now triumphed in three of their last four outings at the New Lawn.

More often than not, teams have come to the New Lawn and set up to frustrate Rovers but in the last few games they've found a way break those teams down.

They've scored seven goals in the last four home games. They'd only scored nine all season prior to that so home form has certainly improved.

Digby makes a difference

Paul Digby made his first start since December 8 and made a brilliant impact.

The former Mansfield Town man served a three match ban and has since been restricted to appearances from the bench.

He came in for Lloyd James against the Mariners and produced a dominant display in midfield and played a key role in Rovers victory.

Gunning led by example

Gavin Gunning was given the captains armband on Tuesday night against his former club and performed just how a leader should.

He was a rock for Rovers, won headers, tackles and was first to pretty much everything.

At 3-0 up he was still urging his team to keep up the intensity and urged them on.

He was desperate for that clean sheet and he deservedly got it.
