STROUD U17s delivered the club’s and Gloucestershire’s first female team gold at the regional championship at the Midland Counties Cross County Championships, Leamington Spa, writes Chris Brown.
All the members of the team were part of the 2015 U13 bronze medal winning team and after four years of finishing fourth and fifth the team were determined to win a team medal, they overcame strong challenges from Wolverhampton, and Newcastle.
Elsewhere, Stroud U20s men won the team silver medal for the second year.
Two-time winner of individual title, Tom Mortimer, who has a long term foot injury joined the team to support their medal bid, protecting his foot he gingerly ran the course to finish second to add to Stroud medal count.
