FOREST GREEN academy starlet Rendijs Kalnins bagged a hat-trick as Shortwood United posted their first win of the season, albeit in a friendly clash.
Wood included Slimbridge player Finlay Byrnes and Yate’s Ross Langworthy, a former Shortwood striker, both of whom have signed dual registrations and will play when other duties allow. This was an excellent team showing and it was remarkable that with the score goalless at the half-hour, Wood were 5-0 up at half-time. Kalnins helped himself to a first half hat-trick with other goals coming from Taylor Marsh and Langworthy.
Tytherington pulled one back shortly after the break but two penalties from Langworthy and Joey Tustain extended the score line to 7-1 and it could have been many more.
