FOREST Green consolidated their place in the play-offs with a 2-0 win at Port Vale on Saturday.

Reece Brown's second half brace stretched Rovers' unbeaten run to three games.

Here are five talking points from the events at Vale Park.

Is Reece Brown the best in the league?

Reece Brown has now been involved in each of Forest Green’s last seven goals.

He now has 10 goals and 10 assists for Rovers this season and put in a complete performance at Vale Park, particularly in the second half.

Brown didn’t just score two goals, he got stuck in, made a vital clearance in the 90th minute and was at the heartbeat of everything for Rovers.

The midfielder is out of contract and Mark Cooper revealed the club have made their intentions known to Brown’s representatives that they want to keep him, with his contract up at the end of the season. He’ll certainly be a wanted man in the summer.

Mark Cooper’s sub changed the game

Rovers were poor in the first half.

They seemed to lack energy, creativity and it was a flat first 45 minutes.

Mark Cooper changed it just five minutes into the second half. He introduced George Williams and Junior Mondal in place of Lloyd James and Reuben Reid and Rovers looked a lot sharper and it completely turned the game in their favour.

Season of two halves for Lloyd James?

46 games is a long time and every player will struggle to play well for all 46 games.

During the first half of the season, Lloyd James was one of the first names on the team sheet and was a key player in Forest Green’s midfield.

Since the turn of the year his form has dipped, and he’s been in and out of the team.

He’s giving the ball away more frequently and isn’t having the same impact on games as he did in the first half of the season.

Mondal edging above Grubb in pecking order

Dayle Grubb has struggled for game time since returning from injury.

He's only played three minutes against Lincoln City and 57 minutes against Morecambe and he didn't have much of an impact.

Cooper turned to Williams and Mondal when he needed to freshen it up while Grubb didn't get on the pitch.

Mondal impressed while Williams has improved as the season has gone on but the former Weston-Super-Mare man has been the fall guy.

He was unfortunate with the timing of his injury but he'll need to have an impact next time he is selected.

Rovers proved they can manage games well

For 45 minutes, it was everything a manager dreams of in an away performance. Get the goal, frustrate the opposition, win headers, put bodies on the line and wait for your chance to counter attack which is exactly what they did.

Too many late goals have been conceded by Rovers this season but despite late pressure from Port Vale they looked pretty comfortable.

The mentality of the players must be applauded.
