Clevedon Town 3

Shortwood United 0

SHORTWOOD capitulated in the second-half at Clevedon, writes Jim Cunneen.

The first-half was even and only a fine goal from George King after 26 minutes saw Town with their noses in front.

The second-half saw Wood make too many mistakes and rarely threaten until the last 15 minutes when they created good chances, but by then it was too late.

The first real chance came after 18 minutes when Nicholson rattled the Wood post from 20 yards. Wood responded and Kalnins had two shots blocked. After 26 minutes King turned and fired a fine shot past Clark from 20 yards and then Clark made a terrific save to tip over a drive from the same player. After that Shortwood were generally on top without really creating a real chance.

Wood started the second-half brightly and Hoskins headed a chance too close to keeper Wallis, but then Clevedon doubled their lead after 49 minutes. Clark picked up a Bowles back pass and after some confusion a free-kick was awarded. The ball was touched to Camper who drove the ball home. A third goal followed with 64 minutes gone when Mann drove across Clark into the corner and Clevedon also hit the Wood bar with a header.

As Town relaxed Wood finally regained a foothold in the closing stages and Kalnins and Bowles were only inches away from grabbing a consolation goal.

Shortwood: Clarke, Bebbington, Nowell, Hoskins, Tryner. Langworthy B, Bainbridge (Gardner 71), Bowles, Mathews (Basana 79), Kalnins, Marsh (Walker 58)
