Wiltshire Senior League

Purton’s season ended on a high as they trounced Kintbury Rangers to ensure their season ended with a four match winning run.

Wiltshire League runners up, Kintbury Rangers arrived at The Redhouse on the final game of the 2018/19 season.

Purton had already confirmed a fifth place finish - so the game was more about pride than anything else, and looking to finish the season with a big three points.

Kintbury travelled with a much changed side, with only a handful of their regular first team players in the squad - and Purton took full advantage, with a professional performance.

The home side started fast when Nathan Marland broke down the right wing, and squared the ball for George Drewitt to control and slot in for 1-0.

Only a few moments later, Daren Regis broke past the Kintbury defence, who had all stopped and waited for an offside decision that never came - Regis finished calmly to give them a two goal cushion.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Nathan Marland was played in on the right hand side and slotted the ball low and hard past the oncoming keeper to give Purton a 3-0 lead.

The hosts dominated the first 45 minutes, and could easily have been five or six up at the break had they taken chances. As it was, the scoreline at half time was 3-0.

Kintbury came out the second half a much better side, and applied the first real pressure on Purton, as stand in keeper Ant Brown was forced to make a good save. Moments later the oncoming striker beat the Purton back line and rounded the keeper to pull one back for Kintbury.

Purton started to get back in the game after that, with Kintbury keeper making numerous high quality saves.

Manuel Mesas managed to add to the scoreline on 80 minutes as he struck the ball superbly past the keeper for 4-1.

Chris Avery finished the game with a strong strike from 10 yards, and to end Purton’s season with a comfortable 5-1 win.
