VISA issues sorted, Stroud are set give marquee overseas summer signing Keegan Petersen his Western Premier Two Glos/Wilts debut.

The South African batsmen comes with impressive credentials, staring in first-class cricket in South Africa for VKB Knights and was rated as the league’s fourth Most Valuable Player in the SACA rankings. He finished the series as the tournament’s top run scorer, including three tons, four half centuries and a highest score of 165 not out. Petersen has played more than eighty first-class matches with an average of more than 40.

Last season he starred in the Lancashire League for Rawtenstall.

In addition to playing, Keegan will lead the coaching set-up for all levels of cricket in the club, including the youth section.

Stroud are without a win this season, and captain Tom Horrell will hope Petersen will help kick-start their season at home to Trowbridge on Saturday (12.30pm), he said: “It’s a real feather in our cap to get someone of Keegan’s quality into the side.

"It demonstrates Stroud’s ambition to compete at the highest level.”

James Collins, chairman of Tile Trader-sponsored Stroud Cricket Club said: "We’re really looking forward to welcoming KP to Stroud and are hugely excited about the impact he’ll have across the club.”
