FORMER Forest Green goalkeeper Jonny Maxted has joined Exeter City.

The 25-year-old has moved to the League Two club from Accrington Stanley in search of regular first-team football.

Maxted moved to the Wham Stadium from Guiseley in January 2018 after playing against Stanley in the FA Cup first round replay between the two sides, a game in which he saved two Reds penalties during the shootout.

In all he made 27 appearances during his 18 months with John Coleman’s side, keeping six clean sheets.

“I have some great memories from being at Accrington, I was excited to be bought after my FA Cup performances and being here when we won League Two was special,” Maxted said.

“I want to thank the fans for their support during my 18 months at Accrington and I will be keeping in touch with my Stanley team-mates.

“The move to Exeter came at the right time as it’s a fresh start as I am searching for regular first team football. I hope I can cement my place in the Exeter team.”

The Tadcaster-born goalkeeper began his senior career at Doncaster Rovers, and also spent time with Hartlepool United and Forest Green Rovers before he permanently joined Guiseley in November 2016.

“Jonny did really well for us,” boss Coleman told the club’s official website.

“He was adamant he wanted first-team football and we couldn’t stand in his way.

“We wish him all the best and we hope his career continues to flourish.”
