BRIMSCOMBE boss Sam Prior has signed midfielder Jonty Welch from Hellenic Premier Division rivals Longlevens.

The energetic midfielder, who is secretary at Forest Green Academy, is set to play in tonight's opening pre-season friendly at home to League Two Swindon Town, 7.30pm.

Prior has lost Jack Horrell to Southern League Evesham United and retired captain Chris Greenough, but the Brimscombe boss hopes to add a few fresh faces to the side that finished Hellenic Premier Division runners-up last season.

He said: " I'm pleased to get Jonty in and we’re hoping to introduce a couple of new players into the squad over the pre-season schedule and that should see us in a good place for the season ahead.”

Prior is deligted to see Swindon Town arrive at the Meadow this evening.

"Everyone at the club is really looking forward to welcoming Swindon Town to the Meadow.

“We’re of course expecting a tough game, but it’s important for the football club to host games of this calibre and make it a good experience for the players, committee and supporters of both sides.”

With such an early pre-season game, Prior has already worked his side on the training ground, he added: “By the time of the game we would have been able to have got four sessions into the boys and they’ve come back in decent enough shape for us to start working straight away with the balls.”

Brimscombe also welcome Chris Barker's  Forest Green Rovers' Academy side on Friday and Mike Cook's National League North side Gloucester City come to the Meadow on Tuesday, July 9.
