FROCESTER bid to move a step closer towards a dream day out at Lord’s when they host North Perrott in the last 16 of The Cricketer Village Cup on Sunday (1pm).

Sam Birch will lead a side featuring ten players who have appeared in junior cricket for the Gloucestershire champions.

And that team includes two pairs of brothers as well as two teenagers who last week appeared for Gloucestershire 2nds but who remain eligible because of their age.

Dan and Richie Cave take their place in the team alongside Dan and Chris Whincup – whose father Dave was a member of the Frocester side which suffered a heart-breaking last-ball two-wicket defeat against Kington in the Lord’s final back in 1993.

Frocester are also able to call on batting all-rounder Will Naish (16) and leg-spinner Alex Russell (17) who last week appeared for Gloucestershire 2nds at Rockhampton against a Somerset side featuring Marcus Trescothick.

Wins over Painswick, Marshfield and Corse & Staunton put Frocester into the last 32 where they defeated Swansea side Ynystawe by four wickets. Sunday’s victors will be away to Cumnor or Sarisbury Athletic.

Frocester: Sam Birch, Callum Gegg, Will Naish, Will Helmke, Chad Trainor, Ashley Davis, Dan Whincup, Chris Whincup, Dan Cave, Richie Cave, Alex Russell.
