AN injury to teenage striker Levi Mathews saw Shortwood lose their momentum in a testing friendly against Brimscombe, according to joint manager Mat Blythe.
Shortwood suffered a 5-1 defeat at Meadowbank despite Mathews giving the Nailsworth side an early lead.
Mathews hobbled off with an impact injury and his departure coincided with Brimscombe turning the screw
“We had Brimscombe on the ropes for the opening 25 minutes, but Levi got a bad injury and we lost our momentum,"said Blythe.
Brimscombe’s continuity was the mitigating factor on a chastening night for new-look Shortwood.
Blythe added: “Brimscome are such a good side these days. They’re a group of lads that have been together for four or five years and they have more experience, more quality.”
