Binfield 1

SAM PRIOR insisted his Brimscombe side produced an outstanding display despite losing their season home opener to Binfield, writes Scott Boulton.

Ash Povey's goal just before the break was the difference in a game Brimscombe dominated.

Prior claimed: "Our performance was outstanding. We controlled large parts of the game, created the most chances, most corners, made them change their shape yet have nothing to show for it.

"Our quality in the final third was poor, on another day we’d have gone in 4-1 up at half-time, but good positive signs going forwards though."

Earlier, the Lilywhites felt that they could have had two goals in as many minutes when Sam Blackie broke through the Binfield backline. Jack Smith then latched onto a forward pass before he got into the box but fired his effort just wide of the post.

Henry Birkett came close when he volleyed the ball from the edge of the box but he saw the effort rattle the post. Things were looking good for the Gloucestershire side and they were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position, Ollie Pitt stood over the ball and tried curling it towards the corner, but he found the outside of the post and the ball trickled out for a goal-kick. Things took a turn though, Asa Povey took hold of the ball from the Brimscombe defence and slipped away past Ash Gale to give the Moles the lead, just ten minutes before the break.
