Charlton Rovers 1 - 1 Chalford AFC

Chalford AFC returned home from Badsey with a point, which was so close to being three.

The flow of the game changed on 28 minutes when Luke Barstow was dismissed for handling the ball on the line, the resultant Charlton Rovers penalty was struck against the post and Chalford managed to clear the loose ball to safety.

In the 37th minute, Chalford had a penalty of their own when a quick counter saw captain Johnny Davis bundled over in the box, up stepped Andy Maryon who’s finish straight down the middle gave Chalford a 1-0 lead.

Just before half-time Nick Sollis was dismissed to the sin bin which meant Chalford would need to see out almost 10 minutes of the second-half with nine men.

Once Sollis returned Chalford managed to get more possession and despite having to defend for long periods did create chances. Davis hit the bar from a corner, Maryon saw his effort scrambled off the line and substitute Ryan Harry fired wide after a great solo run.

It’s wasn’t to be for Chalford though as in the 95th minute Rovers worked a ball into the box and the oncoming striker beat Sims to the ball to finish at the near post.

Boss Ben Powell said: “If you’d of offered me a draw on 28 minutes when Luke was sent off and they’ve got the ball on the spot I’d of certainly taken it, even more so with then having a period with nine men.

“Most pleasing for me was the attitude shown by the players they worked their socks off. We could of folded but didn’t and that testament to the togetherness of the players, we rest a few tired legs now before we play at Tuffley on Wednesday.”
