THE west country bragging rights went to Forest Green as our magnificent team jumped to the top of the League Two tree.

We leapfrogged Exeter City at the top and with our title rivals Swindon Town faltering at Bradford City and Cheltenham Town only drawing at Oldham it made for happy day and even better Sunday in the Light household.

Saturday was a joyous day at fortress New Lawn as we stretched our unbeaten run to six. The unchanged team moved confidently and speedily with candidates for man-of-the-match all over the field.

My award goes to the young man in front of me whose Green Army shouts inspired all around him. The East Stand has never been noisier – hooray and well done to all concerned. As I made my way from my seat to the media room I passed two youthful gentlemen, probably in their 50s, talking. There was a warm glow about them, and rightly so. It was chairman Dale Vince and head coach Mark Cooper. These are the men who are taking this club forward, and who are doing it well. If you do not believe me look in the paper. Where in the table are Hereford, Kidderminster, or Kettering? They are the names of yesterday, we are the name of today and of so many tomorrows. Sadly, I still heard mention of a boycott. Why? To be fair to the South Stand they decided to pipe up when the goals flowed.

The football has never been better. Jim Harvey had his team playing good stuff but his squad was never big enough and he never had a reliable goalkeeper. Look at the ability of those who did not even make the bench on Saturday. We are a young side and there will be setbacks, but the overall graph will keep moving up. The only question is how high. It’s going to be fun finding out.
