Shortwood United 7

Tytherington Rocks 1

HOT-SHOT striker Luke Soule hit four goals as Shortwood crushed Tytherington Rocks to strengthen their title claims, writes Jim Cunneen.

Wood took the lead after 15 minutes. Joe Wilton’s near post corner was headed home powerfully by central defender Josh Kerr. Wood settled after that opener and Wilton twice forced keeper Dunning to save before Wood made it 2-0 after 24 minutes. Rendijs Kalnins picked up a loose ball 25 yards out and unleashed a screamer into the top corner. Soule scored his first goal after 32 minutes with a side-foot finish from a Wilton cross and the same combination made it 4-0 before the break.

It did not take Wood long to make it five in the second half. Dunning spilled a shop from Max Harper – Emerson and Soule showed excellent skill and composure to complete his hat-trick. Wood continued to impress and chances came and went but Dunning saved superbly to deny Jacob Nowell.

Kalnins smacked the bar from 20 yards as he aimed to repeat his first half screamer before Harper – Emerson finally made it 6-0 after 76 minutes – latching on to a Kalnins through ball. Kalnins was again the supplier as he turned in the area and fed Soule to complete the rout with seven minutes to go.

In the last minute a driven cross was handled in the box and Rocks had a penalty and Dent sent Clark the wrong way to give him the goal he deserved.
