Forest Green head coach Mark Cooper accused his side of Christmas over-indulgence after they were held to a draw at basement boys Stevenage.
Forthright Cooper questioned the desire of the League Two automatic-promotion chasers after Graham Westley’s strugglers grabbed a point Cooper told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: “I said to the players, they looked as though they had eaten five turkeys each, a bottle of sherry each, and a bath full of trifle each.”
However, Cooper was pleased to get something out of the game, he added: “It was a poor game, horrible conditions and I’m glad to get out of here with a point, but we need to be better.
“We didn’t play well individually, but we kept a clean sheet so that’s a bonus. If your desire and quality isn’t as much as the opposition - then you struggle to win a game.”
Rovers welcome Macclesfield to the New Lawn on Sunday and Cooper is confident his side can cope with an expected quiet home crowd.
He added: I’m sure it will be very different to the Swindon game, but it’s up to us to manage the lack of atmosphere."
