Stroud Cricket Club have confirmed the signing of rising Proteas star Keegan Petersen for their 2020 West of England Premier League season, writes Oliver Holmes.

The Ryeford-based side have bagged Keegan again after he shone for them last year, scoring 663 runs and taking 23 wickets allowing Stroud’s 1st XI to consolidate their position in WEPL Premier 2 Glos/Wilts division after promotion the year before. Since then Keegan has starred on home soil, recently scoring a century for South Africa A against England that resulted in him being called into the test squad for this week’s second test in Cape Town, where he sadly missed out on a full test cap to the fellow debutant opening batsman Pieter Malan.

The 26-year-old averages 40.66 in first-class cricket has represented Knights and Northern Cape back in South Africa.

Stroud chairman James Collins said: “Having Keegan back again gives us a tremendous boost for the upcoming season. Despite a truncated stay last year, his undoubted quality shone through and he is hugely liked by everyone involved at the club. We’re so looking forward to having him back.”

Stroud will once again field four senior teams in WEPL, GCC and SDCA leagues in 2020 and any prospective players should contact the club on join@stroudcc.co.uk
