FORMER strike partners Jon Parkin and Dean Windass were revered for a large slice of old school banter on and off the pitch.

The larger than life star duo boasted colourful careers and often looked forward to a Saturday night more than Saturday at 3pm.

Parkin and Windass are now respected after dinner speakers and podcasters and the former Hull City stars will be waxing lyrical at the Hardwicke British Legion on Saturday, March 28 in a fundraiser for grassroots football club Hardwicke FC.

Parkin announced his retirement from football at the age of 37 last summer. The skilful striker helped Stoke City push for the Championship play-offs in 2007 and was a popular figure on the fringes as they won promotion to the Premier League 12 months later.

He had played for York City last season, but is also mostly remembered fondly at Macclesfield Town, Barnsley, Hartlepool, Hull, Preston, Cardiff, Doncaster, Huddersfield, Scunthorpe, Fleetwood, Forest Green and Newport County.

Parkin has carved out a career off the pitch as an author and hosts the popular Undr the Cosh podcast alongside former Preston and Sunderland striker Chris Brown and award-winning writer and Bolton fan Chris Brown.

Windass had an 18-year playing career and is remembered for his winning goal in the play-off final against Bristol City in 2008 lifted hometown club Hull into the Premier League for the first time. Windass also played for Aberdeen, Oxford, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, played his last league game as player/coach for Darlington.

Windass is now establishing a new career in the media, and is a regular pundit and summariser on Sky Sports and the BBC.
