The Buildbase FA Trophy Second Round Qualifying

Thame United 4 – 1 Cirencester Town

Cirencester travelled to Thame United for this FA Trophy fixture, conceded a goal within three minutes, levelled, fell behind again, conceded two more minutes before the interval and their ‘Trophy’ journey was over for this season, writes Dave Pyzer.

The home side made the perfect start to the match as within three minutes of kick-off the ball reached Greg Hackett at the back post and he volleyed home from a few yards.

Cirencester reacted well to the setback as 11 minutes later they were level following determined work from Brad Gray to supply Josh Parsons who scored despite the best efforts of ‘keeper Chris Rackley.

Four minutes later Thame regained the lead as Lynton Goss tucked his shot inside the right post from the edge of the Cirencester box.

It took a little while for Cirencester to re-group but try as they might they couldn’t break through the home defence and just before the half-time whistle two goals within the last two minutes of the half sealed their fate as Ryan Blake scored from close range and Greg Hackett smashed one home from the edge of the box.

During the interval Cirencester made a couple of changes and whilst they pressed for a way back into the game the home defence remained solid and they countered quickly to keep the Cirencester defence busy.

On the day Cirencester were out-performed by their opponents who were well worthy of their victory.
