Forest Green's fourth consecutive match has been postponed, as Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc on the festive football programme.

Rovers were due to host Exeter City on December 29, but the game has been called off due to a number of Covid cases in the City squad.

A statement on their website said: "The Club informed the EFL that it would be unable to fulfil the fixture at The New Lawn due to a number of positive COVID-19 cases in their squad.

"The Club has worked hard to ensure that it has been able to fulfil the fixture. However, taking into account the injuries and positive COVID-19 cases with the squad, the Club does not have a sufficient number of players available in order to fulfil the fixture.

"In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement. In addition it will assist affected Clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.

"A rearranged date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course."

Forest Green players were due to be out of isolation in time for the game, having had their last three games, including the Boxing Day fixture with Newport, cancelled due to the number of positive cases within their own squad.

It means the club will go at least three weeks without a match in what is normally one of the busiest times of the year, having not played since a 5-5 draw with Oldham on December 11.

No football will therefore take place at the New Lawn in December, but Rovers are due to host Stevenage on New Year's Day.

New dates have now been announced for the home matches against Colchester United and Mansfield Town which were postponed earlier this month.

The U's will make the trip to Nailsworth on Tuesday, January 11, while Nigel Clough's side visit the following week on Tuesday, January 18. Both games will kick-off 7.45pm.
