A 60-YEAR-OLD cyclist has been left with life changing injuries after he was knocked off his bike at the Horsetrough roundabout in Stonehouse.

Police said the man was hit from behind by a silver Volkswagen Golf at 7.50am on Friday.

The cyclist was thrown over the handlebars, leaving him with head injuries, which are considered to be life changing but not life threatening.

Lewis Saunders, 51, who lives in East Drive, in Ebley, has been cycling to work in Stonehouse for 21 years and said an accident at the roundabout was inevitable.

"I come across that roundabout most days and I have had three near misses in the last six months," said Mr Saunders.

"Motorists coming up from the Ebley bypass that want to go straight across the roundabout to Stonehouse barely glance to their right and on a number of occasions drivers haven’t seen me.

"It is worse during the school holidays because the volume of traffic usually forces cars to slow down but when the children are off drivers don’t have to stop."

Anyone with any information about Friday's accident should call police on 101 quoting incident 79 of April 5.
