PARALYMPIAN bronze medallist James Brown was awarded with a high commendation in the Stonehouse Town Council Civic awards.

James, 48, a tandem cyclist who represented Ireland and Stonehouse in the London Paralympics last year, was unable to attend the civic awards last month so collected his award at the town council’s AGM on Monday, May 13.

Cllr Simon Lewis read out to James the reason he was nominated for the award saying that ‘despite having five per cent vision he has taken part in five Paralympic games, nine world championships and two European championships and deserves recognition from the community for his accomplishments’. James, who bought along one of his racing bikes and bronze medal to the meeting, said: "I am very honoured to receive this award."

When asked what he had planned for the upcoming 12 months he replied saying he had a quiet year ahead.

"I have three world competitions in Italy, Spain and Canada and then the World Championships in Canada," said James.
