HOWZAT for a challenge – Matthew Evans cycled more than 340 miles in five days to the five grounds hosting this year’s Ashes tournament.

The challenge took Matthew across the country from the Emirates Durham ICG ground to Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

He also stopped at Old Trafford in Manchester, Trent Bridge in Nottingham and The Oval in London.

Around 70 cyclists took to the saddle for the Investec Ashes Cycle Challenge, between Saturday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 17, to raise money for the Lord’s Taverners charity, which provides equipment for disabled children to enjoy sports.

Matthew, a publisher with Luxury Titles, has raised around £300 which has helped the group raise £250,000 to buy three minibuses and other sporting equipment for the charity.

"I already cycle a lot but it was a tough challenge because everyday it was around 30 degrees Celsius and it was particularly hard over the Pennines and Peak District," said Matthew, 36, of Minchinhampton.

"We cycled though moors, dales and we went up the biggest hill in England.

"It was difficult because it was five days cycling in very hot weather.

"But I did it with a great bunch of people for a great cause and it was a privilege to be involved in the event.

"A number of high profile cricket and sporting personalities took part in the ride, including former Ashes winning England captain Mike Gatting OBE.
