CAMPAIGNERS fighting to stop 150 homes from being built between two villages delivered 259 letters of objection and a petition with more than 1,000 signatures to Stroud District Council’s head of planning.

Members of the Mankley Field Action Group handed the letters and the petition to Phil Skill on Tuesday, July 23.

The letters object to proposals by developer Gladman to build 150 new homes off Bath Road in Leonard Stanley – known locally as Mankley Field.

Diane Odell, chairman of the Mankley Field Action Group, said: "We are not against housing in Leonard Stanley but this is just the wrong location.

"Mankley Field is the green lung between Leonard Stanley and King’s Stanley and by building 150 homes on it we will not only lose our last bit of green space but also our separate village characters."

Gladman spokesman Martyn Twigg said: "We are aware of the issues which have been raised by local residents and we believe we have addressed these where possible in the planning application and the supporting information."

SDC's development control committee will meet in September to discuss the application.

Mrs Odell has also set up an online petition, go to http://tinyurl.com/kfdfhuq.
