POLICE were called to a report of a collision and stabbing in Gloucester this morning.

The incident happened in Pembury Road at 7.15am today (Monday 5 January).

A 44-year-old man has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with life threatening injuries.

A man has been arrested in connection with the offence and is currently in police custody.

Road closures are in place while the investigation continues.

These closures will apply for vehicles and pedestrians until further notice.

UPDATE: The police have since confirmed that the arrested man is a 49-year-old Gloucester man.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody at this time.

The injured man is still in a life threatening condition.

Police also believe that the injured man and arrested man know each other and do not believe this to be a road rage type incident.
