FIVE months after they last met, a Nailsworth father and son serving on different Royal Navy ships enjoyed a brief reunion at sea.
Capt Kevin Rimell and Able Seaman Kye Rimell met up for the first time on operational duty in the Middle East.
Kevin, 55, is Commanding Officer of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Waver Ruler, while Kye, 22, is currently deployed on the Royal Navy warship, HMS Kent.
The meeting took place while the two ships travelled side by side in what is known as a “replenishment at sea”, where Kent received fuel and provisions from the tanker Wave Ruler.
After a lengthy deployment the meeting was brief but emotional.
Kye, who grew up at the family home in Nailsworth, then followed in his father’s footsteps by going to sea, said: “To be given the opportunity to see my dad for the first time in five months was a wonderful start to 2015.”
