A KIND-HEARTED couple from Stroud who fostered children have been recognised for their dedication to young people in their care.

Malcolm and Karen were approved to foster by the county council in November 2014 and now look after two young children with their daughter Amy.

To thank the couple for their continued support, JRools Bistro in Stroud treated them to a free meal on Thursday.

Steve Betts, owner of JRools Bistro said: “We are delighted to offer a meal to Karen and Malcolm who have given a home to two youngsters most in need.”

The celebration coincided with this year’s national campaign Foster Care Fortnight (June 1-14) which will highlight the need for more foster carers.

This year’s theme; Fostering: Make a Connection, recognises the many people who foster and the positive impact they have on children’s lives.

Cllr Paul McLain, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Foster carers carry out an incredible role in our community looking after the county’s most vulnerable children and young people.

“Our foster carers tell us year after year how rewarding it is to be a foster carer. We really need more people like Malcolm and Karen coming forward to foster.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in taking on this life-changing role to go along to the drop-in event and learn more.”

As part of the awareness week the county council will be holding a drop in session on Saturday June 6 at King Street in Stroud from 9am to 3pm.

The county council is particularly keen to hear from people looking to foster older children and teenagers.
