NAILSWORTH Town Council has got the town buzzing with its front garden competition this summer.

Town councillors have been searching the streets of the town for front gardens that encourage bees and other pollinators and they have found an abundance of beautiful borders and pollen-laden pots.

Around 400 front gardens in Nailsworth have been rewarded with a ‘Bee-friendly Garden’ certificate.

Councillors were delighted to find many eco-friendly gardens with water butts, wildlife habitats and those managing without using slug pellets, which are harmful to hedgehogs and birds.

Cllr Sue Reed said: “This was a delightful project and we had many offers of help to make a bee friendly community.”

Nailsworth Town Council will use the results of the front garden competition to make a map of bee-friendly spots – or ‘bee-lines’ - in the town as part of a series of ‘bee-friendly’ ventures they have planned for the town.
