A 65-year-old woman who was airlifted to hospital after a crash with a lorry near Asda in Quedgeley on Wednesday is recovering well.

The female driver was cut from her Nissan Micra after flown to hospital with “life threatening internal injuries”.

Police have now said she is “recovering well in hospital” and that her injuries are not as serious as first thought.

Fire Crews, police and paramedics attended the scene near the busy supermarket off the A38.

The crash happened when the woman’s small vehicle collided with a lorry at the traffic light junction by Asda at around 1.40pm.

Fire fighters used equipment to remove the roof of the Micra to free the injured motorist.

An air ambulance then landed near the main road and flew her to Southmead Hospital.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the crash.

The A38 southbound away from Gloucester towards the M5 was completely closed, causing long delays.

It reopened shortly before 6pm yesterday.
