HOUSEHOLDERS are being encouraged to join a scheme aimed at saving money on gas and electricity bills.

The Big Community Switch, which is supported by Gloucestershire County Council, has been taken-up by more than 1,100 homes since its launch saving participants an average of £250 on their gas and electricity bills each year.

By arranging for a large number of people to take part, it aims to organise a better deal than it would be possible for a single person to secure.

Open to electricity and gas users, including people with pre-payment meters, the Big Community Switch is now open for its winter auction.

Cllr Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: “We are continuing to support this scheme as we know the process of switching can often put people off.

“The last auction was really successful with 530 people registering.

“I have no doubt that the Big Community Switch scheme will continue to save people money on their energy bills, so why not start the new year by registering to find out if you could be saving money.”

Residents can register their interest at gloucestershire.gov.uk/bigcommunityswitch or by phoning the council on 01452 425 75.

Further information is also available at libraries across the county. Having a recent energy bill to hand will simplify the process.

There is no obligation to switch supplier on anyone who registers their interest. Registration must be completed by February 13.
