A POPULAR and much-loved church stalwart from Rodborough has died aged 81.
Martin Ecclestone from Butterow West leaves behind his wife Brenda, a daughter and two grandchildren, a son and two brothers.
Born in Barrow-in-Furness, he spent almost all of his working life with the Central Electricity Generating Board and when the industry was privatised in the 1980s he moved to Cheltenham, which became the headquarters of the nuclear division.
He and his wife were members of Holy Trinity Church in Minchinhampton and he instituted, and for many years organised, the annual collection for Christian Aid.
He also helped organise the Severn Forum lectures in Cheltenham.
Along with Mrs Ecclestone, he was an active member of the Stroud Labour Party, and was secretary of Gloucestershire Archaeological Society.
His funeral takes place at Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton, on Friday, February 17 at 11.30am.
Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society.
