FAMILY and friends gathered to pay tribute to Leah Hook and watch the unveiling of a sculpture at Barton End Stables in Nailsworth on Saturday.

A much-loved helper at Barton End Stables in Nailsworth, Leah, a pupil of Archway School, is remembered as an amazing, kind-hearted young person who had a natural affinity with animals.

A sculpture of a horse has been erected at the stables as a lasting tribute to Leah, and around £2000 was raised to pay for it with the remaining money going to the Blue Cross animal charity.

It is made from horseshoes by Swindon-based Ben Lee, who used to teach Leah riding and knew her well.

Cheryl Bodenham, office manager at the stables, said: “It was a very emotional afternoon.

“The cake sale went bonkers, and just when we thought we were running out along came someone else with a donation, which was great.

“The raffle was also well supported, in total we have raised around £2000 which will go to pay for the sculpture and the rest to the Blue Cross charity.

“Leah’s mum and dad and a lot of their family came, Leah’s grandma won a horse riding trek on the raffle which brought a lot of laughter.

“Leah’s pony Odin was spruced up and plaited for the occasion and stood very regal especially when the balloons were released.

“The statue that Ben created is stunning all in white like Odin, a fitting memorial for a beautiful girl.

Cheryl was very grateful for the donations saying: “Thank you to all for their generosity and kindness.”

Well done to everyone who organised this fantastic event for Leah.
