PLANS to redevelop the Standish Hospital site into 129 houses and 19 apartments have been submitted to Stroud District Council.

The submission from the Manchester-based PJ Livesey Group will cost up to £32 million and aims to salvage the area after its closure in 2004.

Following public consultation, which launched in January, the developers have increased the amount of accommodation on offer with an additional 11 houses and three apartments.

The plans are now being considered by Stroud District Council and if approved the developers anticipate being on site in late 2017 with the first properties launched for sale in 2018.

Its plans feature the re-development of the Grade II Standish House into 15 ‘mansion style’ apartments, stable block into five homes, 13 houses in the men’s ward building along with 10 homes in the women’s ward building a long with four apartments.

PJ Livesey director Georgina Livesey said: “We believe our plans will not only preserve and give new life to some really lovely, character buildings that span the centuries, but will create sensitive new homes and open up this mature wooded site to a much wider community.

“There is genuine affection for the site locally and a desire to secure its future.

“We are excited by the opportunity to build upon the distinctive character of the site, incorporating contemporary architecture that complements the Art Deco style buildings, while using a simple palette of materials to respect the importance of the listed buildings.”

The site’s hydrotherapy pool, built in the 1970s will be turned into two single level properties and the Estate Lodge House will be developed into a home once again.

PJ Livesey aim to build 98 two-to-five-bedroom homes in the grounds and to retain the green spaces with new footpaths.

Estate agents Perry Bishop and Chambers have been appointed to advise on the development.

Helene Parker Joel, new homes development manager at Perry Bishop and Chambers, said: “I have visited other PJ Livesey developments and seen first-hand the very high standards they deliver – nothing less than perfection. We are very pleased to be partnering with them at a local level.

“The location of the site, sitting on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment, coupled with the unique mix of properties that will be available will make this one of the most sought after developments in the region with enormous appeal to people working in Gloucestershire, Bristol or London commuters.”
