Pillars of Stroud’s community are set to be recognised tonight at the town council’s award evening.

From 7.30pm Lansdown Hall will be the scene of Stroud Town Council’s annual public meeting where, along with councillors presenting what they have been up to during the last year and fielding questions, they will dish out Community Awards.

Residents and non-residents of Stroud alike have been nominated by members of the public for their contributions to the town.

The winners have been decided by a town council committee.

Mayor Kevin Cranston will be announcing who has won what out of the following categories: environment, trader, young person, community, special award for social inclusion, and the mayor’s award.

There is also a design award up grabs, chosen by Stroud Civic Society.

Aside from discussion of the town council’s work, the meeting will also see a talk by Stroud High students and Stroud Youth Forum, which represents young people in the area.

They will explain a UN-based human-rights and gender equality project they have been working on.

Other hot topics at the meeting may include negotiations on the Subscription Rooms and Rush Skate Park's potential move to Stratford Park.
