A POPULAR venue in Stroud co-owned by Keith Allen has announced that it will close with immediate effect, citing health and personal reasons for the closure.

The venue, which opened its doors almost exactly a year ago, will no longer be trading as of today, October 3.

A message on the venue's Facebook page announced the news this afternoon and was signed by the joint owners Tom De Brabant, Lotte Lyster and Keith Allen.

Included in the heartfelt post was the reason for the venue's closure.

"Along with health and personal reasons we do not have the financial resources to continue in the long term," it reads.

"Those of you that know any of us you will appreciate what a painful and unwanted decision this has been.

"Our desire to bring top quality entertainment, amazing bands, the best audio visual experience with a platform for technicians to learn and expand along with a long term plan to work with the community and future generations of Stroud is not to be."

Additionally the post told the page's 3,000 fans that the trio's considerable personal and financial investment in the building had hoped to 'bring more culture and a sustainable community hub into Stroud to complement its peers'.

The venue has been a popular choice for those looking for a fantastic evening and many nationally acclaimed bands, DJs and performers have graced the stage.

Within minutes of the news being shared dozens of people had commented on the post wishing the team well and thanking them for their hard work and commitment to the town.

Closing the post with a moving sentiment the team reminded the town to support small businesses.

"Those with a dream. Keep music live and on vinyl. Give yourself a place to watch, perform, listen and learn. We are so so lucky in Stroud."

"Spoilt almost with the number of top quality venues and creative people. Appreciate those that make you love Stroud and the valleys so much, the venue managers, the publicans and definitely those that serve you."

Finally the person behind the post thanked "the wonderful Bar Staff, traders, suppliers, and all you people who have crossed paths with us. Be nice, learn and move on. We hope we can."

Artists and external promoters who had been due to appear at the venue will be contacted by email or social to discuss relocating as many of the events as possible.

It is hoped that the scheduled CrazyBird Comedy event due to take place at the venue this Sunday, October 7, will go ahead as planned.
