A GROUP of Woodchester locals have successfully put their village pub under special protection.
The Ram Inn is now an asset of community value after Stroud District Council approved an application by a group of 22 locals - the so-called Ram Rescuers - last week.
Such status, created by the 2011 Localism Act, requires the owner of an asset of community value to inform the local authority if they wish to sell the asset.
If a community group wants to buy the asset, they can then trigger a pause of the sale for six months to give them a chance to raise the money to purchase the asset.
A case in point is the sale of The Crown Inn in Minchinhampton earlier this year.
When its current owners began the process of selling the pub, a group of town residents were allowed to put in their own bid first, though they ultimately did not collect enough cash.
