A MAN was arrested in Stroud town centre this afternoon on suspicion of shoplifting
Police officers were seen speaking to the man in Gloucester Street at around 2pm this afternoon, before taking him into custody.
An eyewitness said: "I saw the man being questioned by the police, for a short amount of time just outside the Painswick Inn.
"Then he was put into the police vehicle and taken away."
A police spokesperson confirmed that a 43-year-old man with no registered address was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.
He remains in custody at this time.
