Police, highways officers and gas engineers attended the scene.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire police confirmed there had been a gas leak, but that there were no injuries.

The road was closed between the New Red Lion pub and the spring but has now reopened.

Andy Jennings, Wales and West utilities operational manager for Stroud, said: "We were called this evening (November 13) to a home in the High Street area of Chalford after reports of a smell of gas.

"On arrival, our engineers found that a bridge in the area had collapsed, causing a small leak on the gas pipe supplying a home in the area.

"We are monitoring the leak and will repair the pipe once debris from the bridge has been cleared.

"No properties have been evacuated and there is no impact on gas supplies in the area."

A crane was used to lift the logs and trailer off the bridge.
