The FATE of an old bank building that later became a bar in Nailsworth has been revealed after rumours began to circulate on social media.
Earlier this week Paddy Coyle, who runs the Nailsworth Chat and Information Page, had posted a picture showing work starting on the outside of the former site of HSBC and The Vault off George Street, prompting speculation.
Its future use has now been announced: it is becoming a bar and restaurant which will be called Waterloo House.
The revelation came from Christo Archer, a Chalford resident who has taken over the building and plans to open his new business by April.
He told residents: "I hope to cater to all tastes in the area, whether it be popping in for a quick pint or coffee, or something a little more interesting.
"I know The Vault intimately well as I managed it for a period last year, and when I heard that it was up for lease, I jumped at the opportunity to take it on - not only is the building absolutely magnificent, the opportunity to provide well-paid jobs in a nurturing environment, and the opportunity to see something that I know has great potential flourish is one I could not ignore."
Among Christo's plans is to source beer from Stroud Brewery and meat from Martin's Meats in Toddington.
He added: "The food will be classic British, with a couple of signature pizzas and pastas."
