Minchinhampton has voted overwhelming in favour of adopting its Neighbourhood Plan.
In yesterday's referendum 85 per cent of voters said Stroud District Council should use the plan help it decide planning applications in the area.
Turnout was 55.6 per cent, with 1943 voting in favour and 344 voting against.
Minchinhampton Parish Council applied for the parish to be designated as a Neighbourhood Area in 2015. The plan went through numerous consultations ahead of the referendum.
Neighbourhood planning was introduced under the 2011 Localism Act to give local communities more control in the planning of their neighbourhoods.
