STROUD’S very own cat cafe has announced the introduction of two community days a week.

El Gato’s, located at 27 Stroud High Street, is now offering two community drop in days, without admission fees, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"Come in for a decent cup of coffee, a slice of cake, cream tea, homemade soup, or for our popular vegan and vegetarian sandwiches, all with the best company in Stroud - our cats," said cafe co-owner Debbie Hicks.

El Gato's, which is home to four furry residents, siblings Neko, Gnairi, Miz and Shimmi, opened in July.

Customers can get a coffee and a snack and enjoy the company of friendly felines at the same time.

A life-long cat lover, Debbie is a firm believer in the therapeutic power of animals.

One of her reasons for opening the cafe was to provide a comfortable environment with access to animal companionship.

"It has been proven that spending time with pets and animals can calm anxiety and lift moods and reduce stress," she said.

"Not everyone can have an animal companion and so El Gato's is here for cat cuddles five days a week."

The cafe is now hosting regular community events, including a special Halloween evening on Thursday, October 31, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

There will be spooky cakes and a pumpkin carving competition. Book via elgatos.co.uk
