A STROUD pub has revealed its future is uncertain during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and is appealing for support.

The Prince Albert in Rodborough has taken to its Facebook page to ask to its customers for help.

The much-loved pub announced it has joined a nationwide campaign called Save Our Venues, operated by the Music Venue Trust.

The campaign gives fans of local venues the chance to support their favourite places, by donating what they can.

And the initiative also gives artists the opportunity to perform virtual gigs.

Sharing the news on Facebook, Albert landlady Lotte Lyster Connelly explained that the aim of Save Our Venues is to ensure that the UK's grassroots venues are 'still here at the end of this'.

She said: "Save Our Venues is a national campaign with ourselves and some of the other 556 other small venues in the UK that are struggling through the enforced closure.

"Some are pubs, some are arts centre, small concert halls, boats and all sorts.

"But one of the things we all have is we all do it for very little income during the best of times.

"And now is not a good time.

"We don’t know when we will reopen; how we will operate; how many people we will be able to host - so many questions.

"“Our Crowdfunder has now been launched and we are raising an amount for here, for us, for the Albert.

"What we do raise will be used to facilitate future gigs, pay bills, train staff. And any monies raised that we don’t spend will go to the national fighting-fund.

"This is a short campaign and we are asking music lovers, musicians, fans, friends and customers to donate the price of a pint, a concert ticket, a pizza, a CD, good night out, however little, it counts and helps. If it’s more, thank you too.

"We know a lot of people are struggling, especially everyone that has had gigs, festivals, tours cancelled, not just the performers but also the many people who work as crew too.

"But without grassroots venues there will not be the future main stage performers, Brit winners, Edinburgh shows.

"We won’t need lighting engineers, roadies and techies. There won’t be agents. No more promoters.

She added: “If you want to get involved and dedicate a performance to us please get in contact with saveourvenues.co.uk or give me a shout."

"Thank you, Lotte and Miles, and the Albert family."
