A fire at a derelict hotel in Berkeley is being treated as 'suspected arson'.

Firefighters were called to Newport Towers Hotel just after 1.30am on Sunday morning.

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police said: "At around 2am on Sunday 6 September we were notified by the fire service that there was a large fire at the disused Newport Towers Hotel off the A38 in Berkeley.

"Road closures were put in place while emergency services were at the scene. Police are liaising with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and the incident is being treated as suspected arson.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should call 101 or submit this online through the Constabulary's website quoting incident 48 of 6 September.

An arson attack was also carried out at the hotel, which has been unoccupied since 2007, in April 2019.
