FOREST Green Rovers' search for a new stadium name got a mention on the BBC comedy quiz Have I Got News For You.

The club is renaming the New Lawn stadium, to include the name of new sponsors innocent, the fruit smoothie company.

Fans were invited to offer their suggestions and the name Kevin made it through to the final shortlist.

On Friday's broadcast of Have I Got News For You, guest host Stephen Mangan posed the question: "Why might Britain’s first vegan football team Forest Green Rovers be about to give their stadium an unusual name?”

One of the panelists, Helen Lewis, answered that maybe they were going to be sponsored by 'ham’.

Mangan then told the panelists that FGR had handed the decision for naming the stadium over to a fan vote and asked if they had any idea what suggestions had been made.

Panelist Janey Godley, suggested "Footy McFootball", which Mangan said would be better than what they had come up with: "Kevin".

But although 'Kevin' gained some traction in an online poll, becoming the favourite with 65 per cent of the vote, it will not be the new stadium's new name.

The final decision was given to the season ticket holders, who opted for the innocent New Lawn.

The club said: "Thankfully, Forest Green Rovers season ticket holders had the final say, and 86% of fans went with the innocent New Lawn."
